A solid solution to extract content

Skrapling is an innovative new tool for the speedy and efficient extraction of web content into manageable and easily analysable formats. It is developed by Tina Julsgaard, owner of the Nordic language service provider Comunica.

Skrapling makes it possible to get a complete and accurate overview of a website’s content in a very short period of time.

Skrapling is the ideal tool for the translation industry, where providing quotes for complex multi-lingual projects can often be a slow and painstaking process, and where there is a great need to ensure consistency across entire websites.

Without Skrapling, preparing quotes for the translation of websites is a time-consuming struggle that quite simply can take forever. Often the clients do not have the content in Word files, so the only way to make a word count is by copying out the content manually.

Project managers can now do word counts and prepare quotes for website translations very quickly, enabling them to get back to their clients promptly and to positively develop their customer relations. They have also noticed considerable cost savings, as project managers no longer need to invest longer periods of time in preparing quotes.

It is possible to download a list of all the URLs which can be send to the clients in order for the clients to select which of the URLs they want translated.

The tool allows content in different languages to be quickly extracted and if the exported content is then aligned it is possible to create a translation memory for new projects, and even a glossary can be created based on the exported content. This will for sure make the end clients happy.

Skrapling can also be used to pinpoint specific terms across all of the pages of a particular website and thereby guarantee consistency. Once the content is placed in an editable file format a simply search for specific terms is possible, and outdated terms can thereby easily be detected on the website. This will allow end clients to rest assured that their content will be clear and concordant not just on their key pages, but across blog posts and other subpages as well.

Another great feature of the Skrapling tool is its inclusion/exclusion function, which can be used to filter pages by language or type. This means that if a client has a multilingual website and only wants to translate the English pages, then simple filters can be applied to exclude all content in other languages. Similarly, if a client decides they do not want their blog or news content translated, then these pages can be easily and efficiently filtered out.
